Principal’s Report
Welcome to Term 3
Welcome to the beginning of Term 3. I hope that families had a relaxing break or were able to experience some adventures during the holidays. It is wonderful to have many new families enrolling at Beaconsfield Primary School across many classes. We have a great community who are inclusive and are always striving for excellence for our young people and families.
Some minor works were completed during the term break. This included the painting of a foyer outside Mr Turnbull’s classroom as well as a new garden planted at the front of the school near the Administration building. It is always pleasing to return and observe improvements to our school. I look forward to ongoing projects for continual growth and improvement for our students.
Staffing Update
At the end of Term 2 we had an unexpected staff change, Miss Abby Clements finished her position at Beaconsfield Primary School. We are pleased to welcome back, highly experienced staff members, Mrs Karen Dawber and Ms Belinda Fisher as the Class Teachers for the remainder of the year. Mrs Dawber will teach Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Ms Fisher will teach on Thursday.
We have also had a change in Professional Support Staff with Psychologist Emma Mou beginning maternity leave. Annie Morton is fulfilling this role for Term 3. Best wishes to Emma for the birth of her first child.
Premier’s Reading Challenge + BPS Challenge
Reading is an ongoing priority at Beaconsfield Primary School as well as across the whole of Tasmania. The Premier’s Reading Challenge, along with our own School Challenge, encourages students to engage in personal reading goals over 10 weeks, embracing diverse reading materials and experiencing a range of literature. Please keep encouraging your child to read and record their books – we look forward to some students being rewarded through the random prize draws in upcoming assemblies.
Winter Sport
Winter Sport (Year 4-6) commences this week – Friday 2 August. All games will be hosted at Blue Gum Park in George Town or at South George Town Primary School. Games will be every second week for Term 3. Rosters will be provided once finalised. Good luck to all students participating.
Assemblies
Assemblies will be held in Week 3, 5, 7, and 9 during Term 3 on a Friday. The start time for these will be at 2pm which is a slight alteration to previous assemblies. This later start supports students and staff to return to class following lunch break and to complete a settled learning task prior to assembly. It will also help families who attend assemblies and want to collect their child/ren to wait until 3pm, limiting the disruption to student learning programs.
Whilst we endeavour to adhere to the assembly schedule as written above, at times, other programs or learning opportunities may interrupt this. Any changes of time will be communicated via text message to families of award recipients.
Book Week Parade: Tuesday 20 August 2024
Students are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character for 2024 Book Week.
Beginning at 11.40 in the School Hall, followed by a Parade through Weld St. Students will depart from the Hall at approximately 12pm, returning in time for lunch.
Classes will be visiting local businesses to listen to a story before returning to school for a free sausage sizzle (1 x sausage per person). Additional information will be sent home regarding the BBQ.
Families are welcome. We hope to see you there.
Shelter Belt Planting with EHS
A group of Year 5/6 students travelled to Exeter High School to take part in planting a Shelter Belt at the School Farm. Shelterbelts provide shade and wind protection for livestock, mitigate erosion and slow wind speeds across pastures and crops. Native shelterbelts also support many species of animals, helping conserve wildlife and contributing to natural pest control on a farm. It was great to work alongside students and staff from Exeter High School as well as some students from Exeter Primary School. In years to come, students will be able to observe the trees planted and the difference this project will make to the School Farm. Thank you to Mr Fox for inviting our students to be part of this project.
