Principal’s Report
We are now nearing the mid-year point for 2023. I wish to acknowledge the contribution of students and their families, and school staff who support students to do their best every day. It is always rewarding to witness the great learning which occurs within the classroom but also the learning which goes beyond the walls of the classroom. Students have engaged in many opportunities throughout the term including, the Garden Program, Cross Country as well as representative opportunities at TPSSA and Tasmanian All Schools, class excursions, Walk to School event, Mother’s Day Stall, and Winter Sports Exchange. I have no doubt Term 3 will be just as busy with many great things to look forward to.
Mid-Year Reports
It has been pleasing to see families engaging in reporting conversations over the last fortnight. We have reached approximately 90% of families meeting for face-to-face conversations with class teachers. I hope that you were able to celebrate your child’s progress with them and plan future goals together.
We look forward to continuing to support your child into Term 3 and 4.
School Building and Grounds Works
Throughout the term we have had significant works occurring on our school site. The most anticipated project has been the school hall and we are edging ever closer to completion of this project. We are hopeful of being able to move into this space during the school holidays and students will resume using the hall at the beginning of Term 3. My sincere gratitude to Mrs Katrina Hillier for her commitment and leadership of this project. It is an excellent asset to our school. We plan to have an official opening of this building later in the year.
We have also had a large amount of drainage work completed which is helping to alleviate a section of flooding which occurs annually alongside the school pool and play equipment. Further work will occur to assist with the drainage of the school oval later this year.
Fencing work has also been completed along Bernard St in the last week of term. This will improve the safety for students, as well as tidying up this area of the school.
Lastly, garden works at the front of the school, outside the administration area is also underway. Removal of the previous garden has occurred with fresh soil and mulch replenished. This week Mr Paul Lindsay has replanted this garden with standard roses. We look forward to watching this garden grow and become established.
Students Representatives at Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country
Congratulations to students who represented Beaconsfield Primary at the recent Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country. Students showed their grit and determination in their respective events with approximately 250 students entered in each race. Just to get off the start line without incident was
hard work. Thank you to family and friends who supported and encouraged their children at this event. Well done to the following students: Ellie, Ciara, Noah, Nate, Abel, Corey, Ethan, Cohen, Jillian and Annabelle.
Legal Aid Visit Year 5/6
Last week students in Years 5 and 6 were visited by Susie from Legal Aid. This information session focused on the following topics:
- Using technology safely – particularly social media and online platforms
- Cyber bullying
- Sending of inappropriate images online
This session was aimed at helping students to understand the impact of social media and various online platforms, understand social media and the law, as well as knowing where they can access help if they need it.
Year 6 Transition to Exeter High School
In Term 3, Year 5 and 6 students will be part of transition sessions to Exeter High School. We look forward to welcoming Mr Stefan Lendvay and Mrs Elle Fox to our school in week 2. This will be a great opportunity for our students to make connections with Exeter staff and former students from Beaconsfield Primary who will be sharing their experiences of high school.
Holidays
Wishing everyone a well-deserved break for the Term 2 holidays. Stay safe and enjoy spending time with your family.
